The 170 year old Gancia is located in Canelli, Piedmont and is home to UNESCO underground cathedrals. Carlo Gancia studied Champagne making in Reims prior to establishing Fratelli Ganci in 1850 with his brother Edoardo. They began making sparkling wine from the local Moscato grape; Gancia claims to be the first Italian sparkling wine in 1865.
They also make wines in Veneto like this one, and Prosecco; additionally vermouth, still red wines and other specialties.
Green almonds and star fruit, lemon balm, apples and honeydew melon aromas lead to a juicy dry palate with a slick texture. Somewhat thin, it mostly expresses lemon, yellow fruits and bold marzipan flavours. Clean, tangy and approachable.
